Keto | One Girls Guide to Surviving Aunt Flo


If you are here that means you are 2 things : a lady, and a keto chick. Whether you are new to keto or have been eating this way for a while, you know the struggle some of us face during that lovely time of the month. I lovingly refer to it as “Shark Week” .

If you are anything like me, this time of the month is especially difficult. The week leading up to Shark Week is even more difficult for me. I want to eat everything!! I tried to do my very first water fast during my PMS window thanks to my husband who apparently had a death wish. It didn’t go well. You can watch the struggle in the YouTube video below. Enjoy my sass served up extra salty.

In this post I am going to tell you how I try to stay on plan. Now, that doesn’t mean that I always succeed in fact I usually DON’T! I am a keto work in progress ya feel? But, for the most part I don’t eat an entire bag a Taki’s so really that’s a win. However, sometimes ladies you just have to feed the dragon ok? And that DOES NOT make you a failure, that makes you human. Hop back up on the wagon and get to gettin. Now that we have had a good old fashion pep talk lets dig in!!!!

Trick #1 : Dragon Time Essential Oil

Ok so this isn’t a snack but it is a life saver. I was a huge skeptic but I used it one month and realized I hadn’t lost my shit and so I am now a believer. I put it in my diffuser about 5-7 days before my Auntie is supposed to come over and the dragon stays at bay 99% of the time. Can I get a hallelujah??? You can also put this in a rollerball and put it on your wrists and behind the ears. If I do this, I add a little lavender and the YL blend Joy which makes it a bit less harsh smelling along with some added chill-out benefits.

4 drops in the diffuser with 2 drops of Lavender

3 drops in a rollerball along with 4 drops of Lavender 4 drops of Lemon and  2 drops of Joy fill the rest with carrier oil.

Trick #2 : Sweeties

All the strawberry cheesecake fat bombs!! Make them when you feel good, keep them in the freezer until you need them. Then move them to the fridge for easy access come crave days. Add a few Lillys chocolate shavings in there too add a little extra decadence.

Trick #3 :

Naked Buffalo Wings deep fried in LARD!!!!!!! OH YES Ladies. This one right here is golden. Literally, these babies are soooooo gorgeous along with satisfyingly grease and filling. Also…. here is my wing sauce recipe. It’s pretty delish if I do say so myself. I could drink it. Bible.


1/2 cup of Franks Red Hot Wing Sauce (make sure it’s the wing sauce )

1/2 stick of Butter

5 drops of Stevia ( or to taste )

Let it chill in the fridge for an hour

Dip or Toss your wings

Shove in face.

Trick #4

Cheese Balls!!!! Because you feel like a lazy ball of crap when you are in this window and you just want something easy to pull out and eat. Whip up a cheese “ball”. I put the “ball” in quotes because no one said you actually have to put in the effort to make it look pretty. You aren’t throwing a party. You’re hungry. So I just mix all my ingredients in my amazing kitchen aide and put it in a bowl in the fridge with cling wrap over it. There are plenty of different recipes on Pinterest but here is my go to that easy cheesy.

16 oz cream cheese softened

1/2 stick of butter

1 Tbsp of bacon grease

1/2 cup of chopped tomatoes

1/2 of chives or onions

3/4 cup of bacon

1/2 cup of cheddar cheese

2 tsp of L&P Worcestershire sauce (1g carb per tsp.) – this is not required it just gives an extra kick

Garlic to taste

Salt to taste

Pepper to taste

Eat with pork rinds while watching a Netflix marathon and your heating pad.

Pairs well with alcohol- bc you deserve a glass of sanity right now. It’s really ok!!

LADIES!!! If you don’t have a kitchen aide what are you doing??? Christmas Birthday Anniversary something… ask for one. I literally use mine all the time.

Trick # 5

Pepperoni Chips :

These are freakin delish and super easy if you do them in the microwave – I honestly hate cooking anything in the microwave but, desperate times. I will give you the cook times for oven and microwave.

  1. Just get a pack of regular size pepperoni and lay out 2 paper towels. Lay as many pepperonis on one paper towel as you like and make sure they don’t overlap. Then cover those up with the other paper towel.
  2. Microwave until they are stiff and crispy -start with 60 seconds.
  3. OVEN : preheat to 425Lay the pepperoni slices in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.Remove the pan from the oven and soak up the excess grease by pressing paper towels against the pepperoni chips. Return the pan to the oven and bake an additional 2 to 4 minutes, until the pepperoni slices are very crispy.
  4. Eat with the cheese ball or by themselves while watching the Notebook for the 12,000 time.


My magical Spinach Dip!!! Literally just throw it all in a pot on the stove on medium heat and stir till all is melted together. Blanch the spinach first and throw it in the pot of yum last.

  • Three 8oz packs of cream cheese
  • 4 oz of Butter
  • 4 tbsp of Bacon Grease
  • 1 cup of shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup of Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 tbsp of Garlic Powder
  • 8 oz of chopped blanched Spinach
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • eat with Pork Rinds or a spoon ❤

If all else fails just feed the dragon and get back on the wagon tomorrow. Eventually you will be able to get through this week of horror without as many cravings. Be kind to yourself and your body. Chances are you have abused it for a lot longer than you have been showing it love. You will not be able to eat perfect every single day especially if you are new to this way of eating.
