Travel season is upon us! As the Holidays near, most of us will be traveling to see friends and family. Some of us will even be taking LONG trips. In the past few years, I have been fortunate enough to be able to spread my travel wings and in the process learn some hard lessons on what to do and what not to do. In this blog I’m going to be talking about the basics of carry on comfort.

CARRY ON LUGGAGE:

First and foremost, get yourself a TOTE! No need to break the bank if you don’t want to but if you are someone who travels a lot or is wanting to travel a lot you will definitely need to invest in a tote that’s well made. Here are few of my suggestions from basic to splurge ( A.K.A. BIG Christmas Gift !)

So now that you have your tote, what do you need to put in it? Obviously is can depend on how far you’re going and how long your flight or car ride will be but here is what I put in mine for a long haul.

BEAUTY :

First and foremost, make-up remover wipes!!! I go for the Neutrogena  ($5) ones in the blue package. They are gentle and also take pretty much all the make-up off my face and leave me feeling fresh. Being on a plane will DRY YOUR LIPS hard core. I always have a few chapsticks handy because I always end up losing at least one. I love love love the Baby-Lips by Maybelline ($3). I always take a travel size mascara like this one from Tarte  ($12). I might not have a whole face of make-up on but I’ll always have on mascara.  This little bag is great from Benefit , it has great travel size essentials ($32)

COMFORT :

Sleep is one of those things that I can NEVER get on a trip, no matter how long the flight. But that doesn’t mean I don’t try my hardest. Our flight to Italy was 14 hours long and I never got a wink of sleep. To be sure I’m at least comfortable on the long haul to London, I will be bringing along some of my snuggle essentials. Like my handy dandy iPad. Obviously, if you don’t have an iPad, bring whatever tablet equivalent you have. If you’re in the market for an iPad I recommend the iPad Air  ( for a better deal get one used from amazon here) I have the iPad Pro also but for traveling you just can’t beat the iPad Air. Make sure that you actually DOWNLOAD all the movies and music you want before you leave your house. If you’re a reader I recommend the Kindle Paperwhite  – the battery life on these things is INSANE!! Weeks, do you hear me ? It last for weeks!!! Get one right NOW! Make sure you have comfortable ear buds too. You will have them in for a while.  Finally, make sure you have a travel charger and extra cords. This charger is amazing, I holds a ton of charge and can charge more than one thing at a time. When you’re done watching all 75,000 Game of Thrones episodes then put some ear plugs in to drown out the snoring coming front right behind you, slather on some Lavender essential oil and try to get some Zzzzz’s. If you’re cold natured these types of scarves double as an  adorable accessory and a blanket. Night Night.

P.S. Never buy the wifi.

SNACKS :

When you’re traveling, the last thing you want is to get bloated. Make sure you only pack things that will help your tummy stay happy. I like to make my own trail mix : Pistachios, cashews, walnuts, and wasabi almonds. I also take premade guacamole, string cheese and then pick up some tortilla chips. (disclaimer : if you have to go through customs idk if you can take all of these).  If you’re going to be on the flight for over 3 hours, get a meal. Get a to-go salad, or wrap from one of the restaurants at the airport. Or if you want something heartier, grab a loaded up cheeseburger. Literally anything but plane food. Plane food is disgusting! Just don’t do it. You can’t get some pre-packaged snacks  like hummus from one of the airport vendors too. Also, water. Lots, and lots of water. Staying hydrated it so important, so make sure that you get a big bottle of water because not only is plane food disgusting, plane water is extra disgusting.  Stay away from caffeine. Bring your own tea bags and ask for hot water from on of the cafes in the airport. DO NOT USE THE PLANES HOT WATER!! (That means no coffee, no tea.)

WHAT TO WEAR :

Comfy. Dress comfy. Leggings are your friend. No matter how good you are with your snacking, you’re going to bloat a little. Jeans are cute but when you’re trying to get into a sleeping position, who gives a crap if you’re cute? No one, thats who. Slip-on shoes for so many reasons but mainly because of security and then also for when you’re trying to get comfy in that coach seat there is just no room to bend over and tie and untie. If its Summer pack socks,  if it’s Winter wear UGGs or some version of that type of shoe. Dress in layers. You never know if you will be hot or cold. Here is a list of what I always wear with some options.

  • Leggings/ if I’m feeling fancy then I put on my faux leather ones just so I don’t totally look like a frump a dump girl.
  • Calf high socks so that don’t get all bunched up.
  • My UGGs
  • A regular plain t-shirt
  • A duster or cardigan
  • Huge sunglasses for when you get off the plane with swollen eyes
  • Big over sized blanket scarf
